Yes, there is such a thing! The World Bog Snorkelling Championships takes place on the August Bank Holiday in Llanwrtyd Wells and this year, Nick – my Mum’s partner and the one in the Hulk suit – and some friends decided to give this mad-sounding challenge a shot.
We rocked up to the site in the pouring rain early on the Sunday to give plenty of time for the gang to register and get changed into their superhero-themed costumes. Then came the waiting, about 2 and a half hours of it. In the continuous downpours. Not so much fun! But despite the bad weather, spirits were kept high and they still managed to make plenty of jokes.
Finally, our group got their chance and all took the bog on by storm. Claudia – the lady in the horse costume – even had the fastest time for women in the ‘Over 55’ category! Apparently, the bog snorkelling was a lot harder than it looked and they did exceptionally well, so hats off to them!
Overall, it was a ridiculous but fun day and I can’t wait to see what crazy event this group fancy doing next.
