A Week in Sensimar Marmaris Imperial Hotel, Turkey
Oh Turkey, how much I adore you!
Earlier in the year, Dave and I decided to have a September holiday to catch some late sun and after some extensive searching, we settled on a Thomson all-inclusive stay at the adults only Sensimar Marmaris Imperial Hotel in Marmaris, Turkey. Many months later and the time finally came where we were hopping on a plane to make our way to the resort.
Well, what can I say about the hotel? It is set in an absolutely beautiful location, with the rooms being up on the hillside and having it’s own private section of beach and ocean. The staff were ever-so friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and the rooms were kept immaculate. They even had a cat cafe, which was a place where they housed and fed stray cats – as a cat lover, I was in heaven!
The week was spent mostly relaxing and reading on the sun-loungers whilst soaking up as many rays as possible; it was heaven! Because the sea was crystal clear, we ended up purchasing a snorkel from the on-site shop and did plenty of swimming too. It was brilliant to see under the water and the many different fish around, we even found some squid! I also managed to finish 3 books during the week which made a nice dent in my Goodreads ’50 in 2016′ Reading Challenge.
We did manage to go on two Thomson Excursions: an Off-road Safari and the Blue Cruise Deluxe. The Off-road Safari was supposed to entail offroading in the mountains with a couple of cultural stops and visits to local waterfalls and the ‘Jesus Beach’ (where it is supposed to look like you are walking on water). Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the day at all. Our guides seemed to lack character and made us feel very unwelcome, the off-road driving didn’t last at all long, the waterfalls were teeming with people, which meant we couldn’t see a thing and the water at the ‘Jesus Beach’ came up to our knees! It was highly disappointing and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.
The Blue Cruise Deluxe, however, was fantastic! We spent the whole day sailing around the local coastline on an adults-only boat with 4 swim stops and lunch – which was an extra swim stop! The boatmen and photographer were brilliant and fun and the boat didn’t feel too busy or full up. We even managed to see a Turtle, which was definitely one of our highlights of the whole trip! It was a great day and we would highly recommend it.
On our last full day, we hired one of the Cabanas which is on a more private jetty and has stunning views of the bay over to Marmaris. For 48 Euro, we received a cool box full of soft drinks, beer, wine (still and sparkling) and a fruit box, as well as waiter service lunch and a biscuit plate mid-afternoon. It was the ultimate relaxing day and well worth the cost.
Our week in Turkey was absolutely incredible and couldn’t have found it more perfect if we tried – even with the disappointing excursion!
Can we go back already?!
