My friend and I have been trying to do different activities on our regular catch ups this year. Earlier in Summer, we went for a delicious Cocktail Afternoon Tea at Malmaison Hotel in Birmingham and the other weekend, we spent a relaxing afternoon at the Cotswolds Hotel & Spa.
Having booked ourselves on to the ‘Half Day Spa Retreat’ package, we arrived shortly after midday, both bursting with excitement.
The restaurant was the first place we headed, as a ‘light lunch’ was included. With a complimentary glass of bubbles, we pored over the tasty looking menu before settling on our courses. Caz ordered the Cheeseburger and I had the Cotswolds Sausage and Mash. It was ah-may-zing. Although they certainly weren’t light!!
After lunches had been eaten, we wandered over to the spa. But not before Caz jostled me up the stairs, after spotting the rooftop hot tub. That’s right, a rooftop hot tub! But more on that later…
Stunning views over the golf course greeted us as we walked in to the main part of the spa. Autumn was the perfect season to visit, as the trees were glowing in the sunlight. We ran to the changing rooms and quickly changed into our bikinis, grabbed the robes and headed straight back out to the jacuzzi – but not before getting a quick selfie and photos of the gorgeous view!
The hot tub was definitely our favourite part of the spa and we sank happily into the warm water. The only downside is that the cover blocks part of the view; however, it didn’t stop us from enjoying and making the most of it!
Every time I meet up with Caz, it’s always such a giggle but this time, even more so. We just couldn’t stop! But that’s one of the things I love about our friendship, it doesn’t matter how many months have passed, it feels like no time at all when back in each other’s company.
It would have been incredibly easy to sit there, with the sun warming our faces, all day. But we reluctantly got out, as our manicures were booked for 3pm.
Jess was our lovely beauty technician and did a great job! I went for a deep red and Caz opted for a glittery baby pink, both from OPI. We sat for a while, chatting away on the loungers whilst the nails dried and then dipped in to the steam room. Although it wasn’t for very long, there was too much steam!
One brilliant thing about this spa is that it’s small and therefore, quiet. We only saw one other couple and even then, it was very brief encounters. This meant that our afternoon was undisturbed and there was no waiting around. It was absolutely blissful!
To make full use of the amenities, we headed back outside and in to the sauna. We lasted a little longer in there but not by much! It was clear how rubbish we were, when it didn’t even get to 5 out of the 20 minutes recommended before we left it – oops!! But for us, that just meant more hot tub time! So back in we went and pretty much stayed for the rest of the time.
As dusk started to fall and with another glass of prosecco in hand, we proceeded to watch as the sun dipped lower in the evening sky. Once the chill started to bite, we jumped back in to the jacuzzi and chatted away, sipping at our drinks and feeling warm with happiness.
We came away from our spa afternoon feeling relaxed, refreshed and giddy.
I’d highly recommend going to the Cotswolds Hotel & Spa for some pampering; we’ve already started making plans for an overnight stay with our other halves as it is that nice!
