As far as officially photographing a wedding for the first time goes, I have to say, Aimee & Sam’s big day was wonderful! The couple were a delight to photograph and I’m now pleased to share some of my favourites from the day.
Having known the groom since high school, I was utterly touched when he and his bride-to-be asked me to be their wedding photographer. As it was my first ‘proper’ one I did a tonne of research/practice/slight-panicking beforehand. But when it came to the day, I had an absolute blast and loved every second!
Aimee and Sam’s wedding took place at the gorgeous Dumbleton Hall Hotel, located near Evesham, Worcestershire. Dumbleton Hall is a fabulous venue, with it’s impressive grounds, complete with a beautiful lake, sweeping landscapes and even an historic arch way. It’s also a very grand-looking building with quiet spots for the couple to pose in, if the weather decides to turn – just like it did when the rain came during this wedding!
I arrived early in the morning to photograph the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready. Aimee looked incredible as she entered the room in her lace dress, bought from The Bridal Room in Broadway. The gasps of joy and awe from the bridesmaids certainly echoed that! Her parents also looked on with a fierce pride that only a mother and father can show. The dried flower bouquets and buttonholes were a perfect option for the day as well. They looked sweet and pretty and fitted the relaxed, country feel excellently. I also managed to sneak out during a quiet moment with the ladies to catch up with the groom and his groomsmen. They looked great all suited and booted!
The ceremony was simply beautiful. Aimee and Sam had their son, Josh, be the ring bearer which brought a tear to many of the guest’s eyes! The bride and groom did very well too, despite having admitted to being nervous beforehand! It was a pleasure to watch – and photograph! – their very special moment.
As soon as the ceremony has ended, the rain descended and it came to stay! Therefore, we went in to the hotel to take some portraits, before catching a dry patch outside later in the day. Despite the weather, Aimee and Sam looked wonderful and happiness radiated off them as I was snapping away.
Following the first section of formal photos was the wedding breakfast and speeches. The father of the bride, the groom and the best men all gave excellent speeches. I particularly enjoyed the best men’s joke of getting everyone to give a standing ovation without the guests even realising it – see the photos below! It’s definitely one to look in to if you’re thinking of doing a speech at some point!
The wedding party was then moved in to the Library Bar and Lounge, so that the room could be prepared for the Reception. Weddings are such joyous occasions and this one was no exception! Everyone had a splendid time catching up with friends and family, telling jokes and swapping stories about the happy couple.
The day ended with the cutting of the cake and a first dance to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’. Again, I’m sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Especially when Aimee and Sam brought on their daughter – Josh, was not so keen to join in at this point! As the song ended, guests started to arrive for the evening. I took my ‘professional photographer’ hat off and enjoyed the rest of the night with great friends.
All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful wedding! All I could think when driving home was how fun and lovely it had been. I am so grateful to Aimee and Sam for letting me capture their special day – thank you again both!
